For freelancers
Free invoicing for Canadian freelancers
Early on, an invoice is a document you write once a month and hope looks right. The risk is not the design — it is the missing details that make a record hard to defend two years later.

What usually goes wrong
Invoices built in a word processor
Numbers get reused, totals get typed by hand, and there is no record of what was sent. Issued invoices here are numbered by the database and frozen once they go out.
Unsure whether to charge tax yet
Until you are registered, you invoice without tax lines. The compliance checks tell you what is missing before you send, so you are not guessing.
Awkward payment chasing
Clear Interac e-Transfer instructions and automatic overdue reminders do the chasing, so the follow-up is routine instead of personal.
The tax reality for freelancers
While your worldwide taxable revenues stay at or under $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters, you can generally remain a small supplier and invoice without charging GST/HST.
You cannot charge GST/HST before you are registered, and once you cross the threshold in a single quarter you stop being a small supplier immediately — including on the invoice that took you over.
Registering early is a real option: it lets you claim input tax credits on software, equipment and other business costs, at the price of filing returns.
What you get

- GST, HST, QST, PST and RST handled per province
- Interac e-Transfer instructions on every invoice
- Registration numbers and CRA-required fields built in
- Automatic overdue rollover and reminders
Common questions
- Can I invoice before I have a GST/HST number?
- Yes. If you are still a small supplier you invoice without tax lines. Do not charge GST/HST until you are registered and have a number to put on the invoice.
- Is the free plan really free?
- The Starter plan is free during Early Access and includes invoicing, the Canadian tax engine and the customer payment page. Paid plans add recurring invoices, team members and higher volumes.
- What happens when I cross $30,000?
- You register, add your GST/HST number in settings, and every new invoice carries it and the correct tax lines. Your existing invoices are unchanged, and your numbering continues without a gap.
