CRA dates for sole proprietors

The dates that matter each year if you are self-employed with a December 31 year end, and the reminders CollabNorth sends.

If you are a sole proprietor with a December 31 year end, here is your year with CRA.

The dates

DateWhat happens
March 15Income tax instalment, if CRA asked you for instalments
April 30Pay any income tax you owe for last year. Also pay GST/HST owing for last year, if you file annually
June 15Income tax instalment, if asked
June 15File your income tax return for last year, with your T2125
June 15File your GST/HST return for last year, if you file annually
September 15Income tax instalment, if asked
December 15Income tax instalment, if asked

The April 30 catch

Self-employed people get until June 15 to file, but anything you owe is still due April 30. Interest starts on May 1. If you won't have your return done by April 30, pay an estimate.

Weekends and holidays

When a date falls on a weekend or public holiday, CRA accepts it on the next business day.

Quarterly GST/HST filers

You file and pay one month after each quarter ends instead. See Filing annually or quarterly.

What CollabNorth does

  • Tax time and Home show your next CRA dates, with a countdown.
  • With CRA reminders on (in Settings, then Notifications), you get an email 14 days and 3 days before each date.
  • GST/HST dates only show once you have a GST/HST registration. They assume you file annually.

Corporations have different dates. See Corporations: your T2 and GIFI package.

This is general information to help you keep your own records. It is not tax or legal advice.
