Your GST/HST return and your year-end forms cover the whole tax year, not just the months since you joined. If you started using CollabNorth in October, January to September still need their sales and expenses.
Open Catch up under Tax time in the menu. It shows every month of your tax year:
- Done: the month has sales and expenses.
- Partly done: it has one of them, or only bank lines you haven't sorted yet.
- Nothing yet: nothing is recorded for it.
Fill in a month
Start with the oldest empty month. Each one offers three ways:
- Import its bank statement. Download a CSV from your bank and import it. Deposits become sales or payments, and withdrawals become expenses. One statement can cover several months at once. See Import a bank CSV.
- Add the month's sales. If you didn't invoice in CollabNorth, record the month's sales as one total, dated the last day of the month. See Record sales without an invoice.
- Add an expense. One at a time, with a photo of the receipt if you have it.
Warnings on your tax forms
The GST/HST worksheet, T2125 and T2 pages show a note when a finished month in the period has nothing recorded. The totals leave those months out, so they may be too low. If the business really had no sales or expenses that month, you can ignore it.
Your tax-ready score counts these months too.
